WHAT
On behalf of the entire sports radio industry, we are hoping you will be able to attend and support The 2012 National Sports Radio Awards Show in Chicago, Saturday night, October 6.
Excellence in Sports Radio over the past quarter century, as well as over the past 12 months,
will be recognized through a summer-long nomination process that will involve program directors past and present and an independent eight-person selection committee. 11 awards will be handed out including a Lifetime Achievement Award presented to Emmis Chairman and WFAN-NY pioneer, Jeff Smulyan.
WHY
The evening is an opportunity for everyone who has contributed to the influence of sports radio to come together for a reunion, celebration and fundraiser which will benefit Parent Heart Watch, a national organization committed to preventing sudden cardiac arrest among youth; the number one cause of death of young athletes. For all those who cover sports, there is great familiarity with the tragic deaths of Chicago Bears Gaines Adams, Loyola star Hank Gathers, the Boston Celtics’ Reggie Lewis and the young Michigan high school basketball player Wes Leonard who scored a game winning basket for his team and died suddenly amid the celebration. The event takes place Saturday Night, October 6, 2012 at the historic Chicago Theatre as part of a big weekend in the Windy City that includes the running of the Chicago Marathon the next morning. A limited number of hotel rooms, one block from the Theatre, have been secured at the WIT HOTEL on State Street. The Marathon actually runs by the front door of the WIT on Sunday morning.
